A recent post from one of my FaceBook “friends” started off with the passive-aggressive line, “asking for a friend.”  The phrase enables you to pretend that the “friend” isn’t you, and that YOU would never ask a question as inane, ham-handed, and revealing as what is about to follow.

The question was a silly slam on Kamala, pretending to be an HR manager, hiring an applicant for a job, who refused to tell the manager what they would do in the job, if hired. It had “clever Fox News word play of the day,” written all over it. Once one of my “friend’s” online friends picked up the conversation, it swerved quickly into a diatribe of MAGA/Q-Anon crazy doom-bating that allowed the original poster, to just sit back and go, “Yeah! What she said!” Super lazy. And weirdly revealing about the original person who was “asking for a friend.”

So, because it seems like a polite way to ask a hard question, “I’m asking for a friend…HOW CAN ANYONE STILL BE SUPPORTING THE NOTION OF VOTING FOR TRUMP?”

If Dick Cheney, one of the most Republican, Neo-Conservative, I love my guns, greed-is-good, symbols of the Republican Party can state that Trump is a “threat to our Republic”…HOW IN THE HOLYFREAKIN’ HELL CAN YOU STILL BE SUPPORTING AND DEFENDING/VOTING FOR TRUMP?

Is there an easy answer to this?  Again…“just asking for a friend.”

Let’s be clear. I don’t have a ton of hardcore, old-school, republican friends, who will willingly talk about why/if they are still supporting Trump.  What usually tips me off, is when they awkwardly try to make a “Kamala joke” about her laugh, or her husband being Jewish, or that she and Pelosi pulled a “coup” by getting Biden to step aside.

Wait…in fact, other than some of the cowards on FaceBook who hide behind endless memes, NOBODY I know makes those kinds of “jokes.”  Mostly because it sounds ridiculous coming out of your mouth, even if you are a ridiculously “conservative” person by nature.

But, let’s go back to Cheney’s recent endorsement.

Dick Cheney. One of the “Terrible Trio of Conservative Chaos” (Cheney, Rumsfeldt, Kristol), responsible in part for the Tea Party movement, the Iraq Liberation Act, and countless laws that unraveled media ownership, banking, and internet regulations.  There is almost no single legitimate political figure who is further to the extreme right than Dick Cheney. I mean, this is a guy who as Vice President, shot a friend in the face in a hunting accident, and still fought gun control measures in Congress. THAT Dick Cheney.

He is an “old school conservative.” The Goldman Sachs kinda conservative who wants things like the “Good Old Days,” of Reagan.

However, he had this to say in a statement, about endorsing Kamala Harris.

“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”

“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

His daughter, a TRUE PATRIOT, who took part in the January 6th commission, and has been ostracized by her party since, made it clear that she too, was voting for Harris.
“I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states,” she said. “As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this. Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”

There are tons of brave Republicans who are coming out against Trump, many of whom spoke at the DNC recently.

• Ana Navarro – Political commentator/talk show host
• John Giles – Mayor of Mesa, Arizona (2014-present)
• Olivia Troye – Former Trump administration official
• Geoff Duncan – Lieutenant Governor of Georgia (2019-2023)
• Adam Kinzinger – U.S. Representative from Illinois (2011-2023)

Every one of them put their political careers on the line due to a deep belief that Trump and his handlers, as well as those behind Project 2025 and Agenda 47, are a danger to democracy and the rule of law. They pay attention.

I am going to try to figure out the answer, and perhaps expose some of the insane cult-worshiping ignorance in some of my “friends” over the course of the election. I don’t have a lot of faith that I will get to the root causes…but, I am going to try.

This is a serious crossroads for our country. It is win or lose everything (again, read Project 2025 and Agenda 47). And more important, the level if insane partisanship that threatens our future, has GOT TO STOP.  I have to try and understand how in the hell people I know, can even remotely think that electing Trump, and all that comes with that outcome, is anything except handing our country to the worst kinds of people imaginable.

Trump is a moron. He proves it every time he opens his mouth. But, we aren’t just electing Trump and his lap dog, we are electing a group of evil, single-minded, fascists of the worst kind, who are ACTUALLY pulling the strings to this mindless, orange puppet.

Too strong?  Well, gosh…I was just “asking for a friend.”

I’m going to end with a quote from Geoff Duncan (the Republican Lieutenant Governor of Georgia who famously refused to let Trump change the 2020 election results illegally), which I will repeat in coming weeks, over and over again for my Republican friends. He said, “Let me be clear to my Republican friends…If you vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 you’re not a Democrat, you’re a patriot.”
