In Their Own Words…Kinda

I always get asked the question, “Where do you get your news and information?”

As I have said often, since media was deregulated, and “Trusted News Sources” have been relegated to viewers and readers that are a fraction of online commentary from YouTube, Reddit, and countless subterranean “Dark Web Sources,” getting the real facts has never been more difficult. If you really want to know what’s going on in the world, you need a variety of sources, which can then be cross-checked, to be able to distill “truth/facts” from a cesspool of misinformation.

Daily (as in every morning), I check the headlines and stories from the Associated Press, Reuters News Agency, PBS, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, the New York Times, and yes…FOX News and Trump’s very own, “Truth Social.”  It is important to see the news from varying perspectives, as well as to see what “the enemy” is up to.

There is nothing like ACTUAL QUOTES…Right from the original source…to make it clear just how dangerously unhinged both the candidate, and those who support him, have become.

Trump’s words, and those who once abhorred him (but now as much as worship) him are beyond telling.

Let’s take a look. Continue reading

Asking for a Friend… Are you a Patriot?

A recent post from one of my FaceBook “friends” started off with the passive-aggressive line, “asking for a friend.”  The phrase enables you to pretend that the “friend” isn’t you, and that YOU would never ask a question as inane, ham-handed, and revealing as what is about to follow.

The question was a silly slam on Kamala, pretending to be an HR manager, hiring an applicant for a job, who refused to tell the manager what they would do in the job, if hired. It had “clever Fox News word play of the day,” written all over it. Once one of my “friend’s” online friends picked up the conversation, it swerved quickly into a diatribe of MAGA/Q-Anon crazy doom-bating that allowed the original poster, to just sit back and go, “Yeah! What she said!” Super lazy. And weirdly revealing about the original person who was “asking for a friend.”

So, because it seems like a polite way to ask a hard question, “I’m asking for a friend…HOW CAN ANYONE STILL BE SUPPORTING THE NOTION OF VOTING FOR TRUMP?

If Dick Cheney, one of the most Republican, Neo-Conservative, I love my guns, greed-is-good, symbols of the Republican Party can state that Trump is a “threat to our Republic”…HOW IN THE HOLYFREAKIN’ HELL CAN YOU STILL BE SUPPORTING AND DEFENDING/VOTING FOR TRUMP?

Is there an easy answer to this?  Again…“just asking for a friend.”

Holyfreakinshirt! 70! Seventy! Seven-Zero. Is it really just a number?

It’s actually happened. I’ve reached an age that almost nobody (if we are talking about the huge group of very vocal versions of myself in my head) thought I would reach. Just typing the actual number is still insane to me, even though I have apparently been 70 since New Year’s Day, 2024 (see pic above).

Is it really just a number, or can I really feel the difference between 69 and 70 (get your mind out of the gutter about 69, you’re too old for that)? And, is it time for all of my “long in the tooth” friends and family to finally acknowledge that we are all in the final descent into various final landing zones (some bumpier than others)?

And…most important…what the hell am I going to do with the time I have left?
But, before we go too much further, let’s take a second to catch up (as I haven’t posted anything on this site since 2022).

Wait…Where Are We? The Summer of No Regrets!

Let’s start with the fact that I am not someone who enjoys sitting on a beach, or by a pool, or on a cliffside, soaking up the rays and “chillaxing.” When it comes to leisure time, I like to pack it with stuff to do, and ways to fill my time, my brain and my soul. I am a notorious “over-planner” who when traveling, simply wants to spend every minute seeing things I haven’t seen before, and experiencing the “local flavor” of where we are. It can be a bit much, and can often result in waking up every morning with, “Wait, where are we?” before my feet hit the floor.

Add to this, the urgency that comes with age. As we watch countless friends and family “timing out,” or “going too soon,” you get the unmistakable feeling that waiting around to check off your bucket list, may be superseded by kicking said bucket before you have a chance to check the boxes.  I won’t go into the maudlin details of how many of my friends and family have passed over the last couple of years, but suffice it to say, it has been a motivating factor in “making every minute count.”

And so…with the wedding of our last of five daughters now in the record books, Deb (my faithful, and best-ever traveling partner) and I hit the booking apps, concert venues, and blue highways, for one of the busiest, and most fun summers imaginable.

Don’t believe me?  Try and follow along…
